Business have always been and will always be profit related. It will never change even after a hundred years. No business is there that doesn’t want to profit from it. It is there for the owner to earn money. Its always money talk when it comes to business. Money is what owners used to profit, but how can an owner profit if it puts more of its money to pay for gas of the delivery vans and other business related trips. The higher the cost of gas the smaller the profit will be. Since whatever profit that the business will have it will deduct to that whatever expenses it have made including the gas. But there is till something that owners could do.
1. Make sure that all of your vehicles are well maintained. Making sure that the oil is being changed every 3 moths, the engine is tuned, tires are well inflated and air filters are cleaned. Small ways but could help you save your business money on gas big time.
2. If you are going to pick up a lot of things for business make sure that you are able to consolidate your trip. This will lessen your gas consumption since you are not going to go back and forth from the office to do other things, it will all be done in one trip.
3. Teach all of your business drivers to learn to idle. It will be a better way of saving gas than turning on and turning off your vehicle.
4. During those cold winter days use a block heater. It will decrease your fuel consumption from 10-20% during the cold days.
5. You really have to lower down your delivery area. Its an obvious way to conserve gas. If you are offering free delivery within 30 mile area them maybe it is time to lower it down to 15 mile area. Or maybe you could charge a delivery cost on your clients since all of them would understand that gas price is rapidly increasing. It will be a better way for you to explain to your clients and be honest to them than just keeping quiet and shouldering all the cost and lose some of your profits. After all its business that we are talking about.
6. Let your clients come to you. Instead of meeting up with your clients outside the office why don’t you set your meeting place in your office? It will be a comfortable place for you and your clients will see that you are serious about making the business because you have showed him your office. It won’t look informal as you may think, your office will always be a good place for business to take place.
